your music writing assistant. bring your idea and notei helps you write it
write sheet music in your browser, and notei's assistant helps when you're stuck.
place notes by hand, type them in, or start from a MuseScore, MusicXML or MIDI file.
select a passage and tell notei what you want. it'll always execute.
play the score back with real instrument sounds, one part or the whole arrangement.
unless you're a pro, placing every note by hand takes forever. instead: select, prompt, and notei executes in a blink.
place every note, one click at a time…
select, prompt, done.
whatever it is, notei it.
pick a note, ask for a voicing, and notei writes the other parts in around it.
see it →press 5, then c e g, and the notes land on the staff. no clicking around.
see it →a couple of ideas are always ready the moment you blank, built off what you've already written.
see it →open a MuseScore, MusicXML or MIDI file and keep writing where you left off.
see it →i wrote my lead sheet on the bus. it feels impossible.
it gives me an insane productivity boost.
it helps me ideate when i'm stuck. it pulls me back in when i feel done.

notei is a browser-based music notation editor with a music-theory assistant built in. you write real sheet music on a staff, hear it back with real instrument sounds, and ask notei about the score in plain language. it runs in any modern browser, with nothing to install.
yes. the full editor is free forever, including writing, real-instrument playback, and MusicXML and MIDI export. paid tiers add more assistant credits, watermark-free PDF, WAV audio export and deeper arranging: notei+ is $9 a month and full score is $18 a month, both half price for students. no card needed to start.
musescore lets you write music, notei helps you write it. both are free notation editors, but notei runs in the browser with no install, and its assistant sits inside the score, so you can ask why a bar sounds wrong, harmonise a line, or have it double the melody in the trumpet. either way, you keep and edit every note.
only if you ask it to. notei can generate a line from scratch, harmonise it, or arrange it for other instruments, but everything it produces lands on the staff as ordinary editable notes rather than a finished render you can't touch. it is assistive, not automatic, and you stay the author of every note.
yes. notei runs entirely in the browser, so it works on a chromebook, a school laptop, a mac, a windows pc, or a tablet. there is nothing to install, nothing to keep updated, and no licence to move between machines.
MusicXML, MIDI, WAV, and PDF. MusicXML and MIDI export are free on every tier, PDF is free with a watermark, and watermark-free PDF and WAV audio export are on the paid tiers. because musescore, sibelius, finale and dorico all open MusicXML, notei fits alongside whatever your school or ensemble already uses.
students writing for band, orchestra, or a composition class, hobbyists who can hear a tune but can't write it down yet, and teachers who need notation that runs on school hardware. no theory degree required, because notei explains what it is doing as it does it.
yes, a free account, so your scores sync to every device you sign in on. no card needed.
your scores save to your notei account so they follow you between devices. see the privacy page for the full detail.
